The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method is a holistic framework for specifying and measuring the sustainability performance of buildings and infrastructure. To ensure buildings deliver optimal sustainability performance now and into the future, BREEAM uses recognized benchmarks to evaluate a building’s specification, design, construction across a range of high impact measures including carbon emissions, low-impact design, climate change adaptation, ecological value, and biodiversity protection.

Administered by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen, DGNB certification is a planning and optimisation tool for assessing sustainable buildings, interiors, and districts. Based on a holistic approach to sustainability that equally considers the environment, people, and economic efficiency, DGNB certification promotes locally adaptive climate- and culture-friendly building methods to increase real sustainability in construction projects. More than 10,000 projects across 30 countries have achieved DGNB certification.
